Hopis call themselves Hopitu – ‘The Peaceful People’. The name Hopi is the shortened
form of the title to what they called themselves, “Hopituh Sinom”, “the people of Hopi”.
These vessels are reminiscent of the beautiful pottery that the Hopitu and other Pueblo
Native Americans created and still create, using specific motifs and patterns to
celebrate their spiritual beliefs and culture. They have managed to preserve their heritage
by continuing their time-honored practices and passing their knowledge and artistry down
to new generations.
